Andrew Christian has closed: the end of an era

This brought to an end a brand that had held a prominent place in men's underwear and the gay community for more than two decades.
For customers, the practical consequence is simple: there will be no new collections, styles or restocks. What remains in stock at retailers is the final inventory of a brand that is no longer producing.
What happened to Andrew Christian?
Andrew Christian announced the closure himself through his social channels. In his farewell, he reflected on the brand as a project centred on self-expression, visibility and queer community. The official website was subsequently closed as well.
The closure did not happen because GUNDERWEAR stopped carrying the brand. The Andrew Christian brand itself ceased to exist. This means I can no longer reorder sold-out sizes and styles.
Why was Andrew Christian so recognisable?
For years, Andrew Christian distinguished itself through bold men's underwear, striking campaigns and a strong focus on the front of the underwear. Pouch constructions, low-rise briefs, jockstraps, thongs and bright designs became recognisable parts of the brand.
Just as important was the way the brand visibly addressed gay men. At a time when many major fashion brands mainly spoke to queer men implicitly, Andrew Christian put that audience very clearly in the spotlight.

Because the brand has closed, there will be no new production. Once a style sells out, I cannot reorder it. This also applies when another size or colour of the same style is still available.
